What kind of jobs do volunteers usually do at Rosecamp Reserve , and how often do you need a hand?
Volunteers at Rosecamp Reserve primarily focus on tasks vital for the restoration of native trees and species. This includes planting, weeding, track maintenance, litter collection, and other general reserve care. We typically schedule working bees several times a year, concentrating on planting months. Here's our provisional schedule for 2026:
2026 Working Bee Schedule:
- March: Event 1 - Saturday 14 March (Reschedule: Saturday 21 March). Coordinating committee meeting: 07-Mar.
- May: Event 2 (Planting) - Sunday 17 May (Reschedule: Sunday 24 May). 9 weeks from last event. Coordinating committee meeting: 02-May.
- June: Event 3 - Saturday 13 June (Reschedule: Saturday 20 June). 4 weeks from last event. Coordinating committee meeting: 06-Jun.
- August: Event 4 - Sunday 16 August (Reschedule: Sunday 23 August). 9 weeks from last event. Coordinating committee meeting: 01-Aug.
- September: Event 5 - Saturday 12 September (Reschedule: Saturday 19 September). 4 weeks from last event. Coordinating committee meeting: 05-Sep.
- October: Event 6 - Sunday 18 October (Reschedule: Sunday 25 October - note: this falls on Labour Day weekend, so a reschedule may not be possible). 5 weeks from last event. Coordinating committee meeting: 03-Oct.
We generally do not hold working bees in April, July, or November, although we may schedule one in November if a previous event was cancelled.
What should someone know or bring if they're thinking of coming along to help for the first time?
If you're joining us for the first time, we recommend you wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots, and long trousers and sleeves to protect yourself from scratches and sun exposure. Bring a water bottle, a hat, sunscreen, and a rain jacket (just in case!). We provide tools, gloves, and a safety briefing. There's no prior experience needed – just a willingness to help!
